Melania Trump reads Dr Seuss to sick children

First Lady Melania Trump has read to sick children in a New York City hospital for World Book Day, reports the Washington Times. 

She brought along her favourite children's book, Oh, The Places You'll Go! by Dr Seuss.

"I came to encourage you to read - and to think about what you want to achieve in life," the US first lady told the children in the Manhattan paediatrics ward.

Her public appearance marked World Reading Day, where public figures read to young children.

"We will read some books today," Mrs Trump said to the children at New York Presbyterian Hospital. "So do you know what is today? It's a reading day."

Mrs Trump sat in a wooden chair surrounded by the children, wearing black stilettos, a blue sweater and black overcoat.

"You go places where you feel better," she told the sick children.

"You'll be as famous as famous can be," she read, seemingly oblivious to the similarity to her own life, "with the whole wide world watching you win on TV".

Melania Trump also came bearing a gift — a white box filled with Dr Seuss books bound with a golden ribbon.
