Kristen Bell's daughter Lincoln made an attempt to impress her mother but it didn't go exactly as she may have hoped.

Over the weekend the actress, 43, shared a a video on Instagram showing off the result of a 'fishing' expedition that her daughter Lincoln, and her dad, actor Dax Shepard, 48, went on in the shower.

The star also revealed a note left to her by her 10-year-old daughter explaining the duo's adventure.

"It says, 'Dear Mom. Me and dad went fishing in the shower drain and dad caught a fish and I caught a minnow,' " Bell continued. "I know you love fish, so me and dad are going to hand them over to you. Sincerely, Lincoln."

The fish the father-daughter duo claimed to catch were in fact two impressive hairballs the pair had pulled from the drain.

"Absolutely revolting," Bell concluded.

Most recently Bell opened up about allowing her kids to drink non-alcoholic beer.

In an appearance on the Kelly Clarkson Show last month, the star said while the parenting choice might sound "insane", "context is important".

Bell explained that when she and her husband, Dax Shepard – who has previously experienced addiction – would take their daughters for a night-time walk when they were younger, he would often have a non-alcoholic beer with him.

"He'd have one open, he'd have her (Lincoln) on his chest and we'd walk and, like, look at the sunset," she said.

"As a baby, she was, like, pawing at it, and sometimes she would, like, suck on the rim of it, so I think it feels to her like something special, something daddy, something family," she continued.

"We've been at restaurants where she's said, 'Do you have any non-alcoholic beer?' "I'm like, 'Maybe we just keep that for home.'"
