Kate Middleton’s mum gives rare insight into life as a royal in-law

The Duchess of Cambridge’s mum Carole Middleton has given a rare peek into her life as a royal in-law.

Speaking to The Telegraph in one of the only interviews she’s given in the 13 years since Kate began dating Prince William, Carole says that “life is really normal – most of the time.”

The 63-year-old revealed that though she used to fall into the trap of reading tabloids, she’s spent the past 12 months avoiding them.

“I thought it was better to know what people thought. But it doesn’t make any difference,” she said, “I’m not really sure how I’m perceived now.”

And it’s no wonder why.

Since Kate and William were revealed as a couple Carole faced near constant media scrutiny.

Labelled as a pushy parent more interested in climbing the social ladder than anything else, the media were quick to question Carole’s values.

But when your daughter is dating the man destined to be king of England, public scrutiny seems to come with the territory.

Perhaps it’s for the best that she no longer gives it any thought.

Instead Carole prefers to devote her time to her grandchildren and her business Party Pieces.

In fact, during the interview she was more excited about sharing the ins and outs of the business she began building in 1988, than spilling secrets about the royals.

“I don’t see myself stopping [work],” she said, “I’ve got a billion ideas I still want to do.”
