There's loving Halloween – having a bit of fun dressing up, eating some lollies, watching a scary movie. And then there's loving Halloween – doing all those things, but also roping your family into dressing up every single day, planning costumes years in advance, dedicating your entire Instagram to documenting it.

Kristine Biti loves Halloween.

The Singapore-based mum has always enjoyed dressing up – "a long history of being extra with costumes", as she puts it – so when she had daughter Amelia, 3, Biti made a plan to incorporate her in the festivities as much as possible.

"I’ve been Zoltar the Fortune Telling Machine and a Hello Kitty Pez dispenser," she told 9Honey. "So it was only a matter of time that I shared (or rather, imposed) my love for dress ups on my daughter."

Her 31 costumes in 31 days idea began, in her own words, as a "fluke" when Amelia was one.

"I had a few cute outfits that were given to her that she was going to grow out of – a Carlton onesie, a cheong sam (traditional Chinese dress) and a Woody from Toy Story outfit. I took a photo of her in each outfit over three days and just didn’t stop," the mum-of-one said.

We're now in the third year of the mother and daughter's challenge to fully embrace the American holiday.

Growing up across the Asia Pacific region and going to school with lots of Americans, Biti has always celebrated it.

Amelia is starting to love it, too. Well, sort of. "It depends on the day and the bribe I offer," the 33-year-old jokes.

"She’s generally compliant with all my shenanigans but I do have to plan taking photos of her earlier in the day. She’s exponentially cheeky in the evening."

Favourite costumes this year include the salad costume and the Statue of Liberty/tourist couple number.

Of course, the special day in question – October 31 – will feature an extra-special costume.

"It’s a surprise but it’ll be a mum and daughter duo," Biti teases.

Can't wait to see what kind of spooky cuteness the pair come up with.
