School shames Grant Denyer over ‘inappropriate’ lunchbox item

As schools crack down on children bringing ‘healthy’ lunches to school, even Grant Denyer isn’t immune to these school lunch wars.

Denyer shared on his co-hosted radio show, Breakfast with Em, Grant and Ed on 2Day FM, that he got a surprise note from his daughter’s school after packing her lunch.

“A letter was sent home from Sailor’s school for having an inappropriate item in her lunchbox,” Denyer shared on 2Day FM.

The item in question? A gluten-free, home-made, chocolate-chip muffin, which Grant and Sailor made together.

“The note said it was inappropriate because it was an unhealthy item in a lunchbox and that contravenes school policy on lunches,” Denyer said.

Fellow co-host, Em Rusciano agrees that yes, we do have an obesity problem and an issue of children consuming too much sugar, but maybe getting a note is pushing the envelope a little bit too far.

Denyer admitted he was completely embarrassed at receiving the note and that he ‘felt like the worst parent in the world’.

His co-hosts jokingly asked if the school even knows who Grant Denyer is. But Denyer countered by saying that when it comes to school lunches, ‘no one is above the law’.

A few listeners called in sharing similar stories.

One man, who also received a note from his child’s school about the contents of a lunchbox, said that schools don’t really have the right to tell him what his child can and can’t eat.

Denyer said that he felt much better after talking to a teacher about the incident.

The teacher told him not to feel bad or question his parenting skills, as his case certainly wasn’t the worst.
