Feminist poem apparently written by third-grader goes viral
Feminist poem tweet
A teacher posted a poem saying it was written by a third grader - and its feminist sentiments have meant it's gone viral.
The poem is titled: "The true feminine" and reads: "I am not sugar and spice and everything nice. I am music. I am art. I am a story. I am a church bell, gonging out wrongs and rights and normal nights. I was baby. I am child. I will be mother. I don't mind being considered beautiful, I do not allow that to be my definition. I am a rich pie strong with knowledge. I will not be eaten."
"Apparently a 3rd grader wrote this," said Twitter user Arabelle Sicardi. "Go off, gen z sylvia plath."
Plenty of parents and teachers responded defending the thought processes and vocabulary of eight- and nine-year-old children.
Listen to the latest episode of Super Mums with Mel and Kel and special guest Michelle Bridges:
Regardless of the poem's authenticity - or lack of it - many people still love it.
Reddit user Soulful-Sorrow wrote: "'I am a rich pie, strong with knowledge. I will not be eaten' is both the most motivational and ridiculous thing I've read today."
Tat Tva Invicta agreed, saying, "It's still beautiful and empowering. I only care about fake news that harms people."
