Being a grown-up requires certain things and looking somewhat put together is one of them.

That’s not always so easy when you’re a sleep-deprived, overwhelmed mum.

The good news is that with a few handy short cuts you can look dewy fresh and lovely, even if you’ve barely slept a wink.

Cleanse and Hydrate

Cleanse your face and use moisturiser.

Moisturiser is a must if you want fresh-looking skin. A lightweight moisturiser is find for normal skin, dry skin needs a rich hydrating cream and if you’re oily opt for an oil-free version.

Apply eye cream.

Olay Regenerist Luminous Tone Perfecting Cream, $48.99.

Correct and Conceal

First, neutralise any dark areas around the eye with a pink or peach-toned colour corrector.

“Apply with a brush to the deepest or darkest area to prepare for concealer,” says makeup guru Bobbi Brown.

Next, apply a yellow-based shade of concealer over the colour corrector and underneath the eye and into the inner most corner.

Apply a light yellow or white powder to set the concealer in place.

Smile and apply a natural shade of blush to the apples of your cheeks. A hint of warm rose is pretty on all skin tones. Blend upwards towards the hair line and then, if the colour is too strong, downwards.

Baby still asleep? Apply a second brighter blush on the highest point of your cheeks.

NARS Blush Duo, $51.

Perfect Pouts

Dark or bright colours require time and concentration. If you have that - wear a lip liner (choose a shade that matches your natural lip colour or the lipstick itself) and then, apply your lipstick with a brush.

If you’re pressed for time, try a neutral lipstick shade in a semi-sheer formula. These can be applied on the go.

The most flattering colours will be slightly darker than your natural lips.

Gorgeous Eyes

Sweep a neutral eyeshadow across the entire upper lip to the brow. Any shade of cream through to light caramel or soft brown will work.

If you have the time, dust a slightly darker shade across the eyelid to the eye crease.

The simplest way to wear your hair when you’re in a flat-out rush? A pony tail. Add a little sophistication by taking a small section of hair and winding it around the band holding the pony. Tuck into the band and hold with a Bobbi pin if needed.
