Electric hair don't care

We've all had bad hair days. But this little kid's 'do is particularly hair-raising.

Sliding down a plastic slide, this little cutie ends up with a style to rival an eighties punk rocker.  

So why does the slide make her hair stand on end? The friction from the sliding creates heat and static electricity (which is an imbalance of positive and negative charges), covering the girl's hair in teeny negative charges.

Once her strands are all the same charge, they don't like each other and want to repel.

So they stand up and away — giving a gel-free, spiky street style for a fleeting moment.
