Deb Knight devises a genius parenting hack after her daughter’s ‘accident’

Accidents happen… and you don’t always see them coming. Running out of the house, a million things on your mind, not bringing a change of clothes, thinking "it’s just a quick trip" or "surely it won’t happen today"- every mum has been caught out in a bit of a sticky (or messy) situation.

Nine News presenter, and host of the Honey Mums podcast, Deborah Knight, has shared her genius parenting hack with 9Honey after her two-year-old had a bit of an accident while grocery shopping. As Deb calls it, "a code brown".

At the checkout for her bi-weekly, enormous, grocery shop Deb’s daughters Elsa, eight, and Audrey, two, were playing on the indoor play equipment when the disaster struck.

Elsa came running up screaming, "Audrey’s had an accident!"

Deb gathered up the groceries and the girls and rushed into the family bathroom in the shopping centre.

"I stripped Audrey down, cleaned her up the best I could, but it was everywhere," Deb tells Honey Mums.

"The brown muck from her code brown was certainly not to be removed from her clothing, and I had no change of clothes with me."

Lucky for Deb, her other daughter is very innovative.

"Elsa is a very creative and a crafty child, so she suggested we make a dress out of the spare Coles plastic bag that we had. Brilliant!"

Elsa took charge and told her mum exactly how to do it.

"We basically tore a hole in bottom of the plastic bag, we used the handles for sleeves and voila! We had a plastic bag dress!"

Crisis averted - even if the new fashion statement got a few strange looks on the way back to the car.

Deb even got a fantastic photo of Audrey which she is saving for her 21^st birthday!
