'Not prepared': Dad shares candid account of watching wife give birth

A US father has offered an amusing yet candid account of what it was like watching his wife give birth to their children.

Father-of-two Dan Matthews shared his thoughts with his wife Sam in a video posted to TikTok while casually organising his basketball gear.

"It was a whirlwind, each one was different," Matthews says looking towards his wife as she films him.

"I mean between you pooping, like me literally watching you poop."

After being pulled up on his recall of her bowel movements during delivery, Matthews quips that what he witnessed equalled to trauma.

"There are a lot of traumatic things, it's not up to me when they come to mind," he says.

He continues, recalling another traumatic moment before taking a pause.

"Nobody prepares you for this," he says.

"In school they teach you about trigonometry. Why don't they tell you that your son's head might come out in one section and then another section."

Matthews then likens his son's head at birth to being shaped like a bowling pin.

"I'm sitting there saying 'why aren't we talking about this? Why is nobody saying we should address this," he says.

The video which was posted to the couple's TikTok account in late December has been viewed more than 4 million times.

"Once had a first time dad tell mom after: "babe you should have seen what just came out of you" the whole room just erupted in laughter," a TikTok user and a nurse commented on the video.

"My husband said, "well, it was like watching a car accident. You wanted to look away, but you couldn't," another TikTok user wrote.

"My husband just told me a few weeks ago "I was in the splash zone and no one told me" because there was a ton of fluid behind our daughter," yet another wrote.
