We all pray our children will sleep through the night, whether they are babies, toddlers or even older kids. But when they unexpectedly do, we wake up in a panic.

Now one dad has shared his thoughts on what goes through a parent's head when a child sleeps in, and let's just say he nailed it. US dad Justin, who calls himself drumbeatlane on TikTok, regularly shares funny videos about the challenges of parenting with his 11,000 followers.

But it is a clip he posted last month that really hit a nerve, racking up 2.2 million views and more than 307,000 likes.

Justin started the video, "Do you all ever like wake up and none of your kids are awake and it's the normal time they'd be awake and you're like 'Oh my gosh, how are they still asleep?'

"And then you are kind of like enjoying the peace and quiet and you're like 'Are they alive?' but you're like 'This is so nice. I do want them to be alive but also I'm really enjoying them not being awake right now' and so you really have this mixed feeling of like 'I'm kind of OK with this right now and I hope they're OK but I am not going to go check on it and see if they're alive because I don't want to mess up the silence'.

"No, just me?" he ended the video, which he posted with the comment "Kids sleeping in is a dream" and the hashtags #parenting and #comedy.

But judging by the reaction he was not alone.

"Why do we always default to dead?" asked one commenter. "Never just resting well, never they must have been tired, but instead DEAD. Logic."

"Same, but I always check because anxiety and ruin it every single time," wrote another.

"One time I rolled over [and] my husband looked dead and I said 'Nothing I can do about it now' and went back to sleep for two hours. (He was fine)," said another.

Another video he posted just this week, this time about getting children to eat, hit a similar nerve with parents.

"No one told me that parenting was like 90 per cent just begging your children to eat food. And I am not even talking about healthy food. I am talking about pizza. I'm begging them to eat pizza. I am saying 'Please eat your cheeseburger. For the love of God, eat these chicken nuggets'. It's not even food that is healthy or hard to eat and I am begging them to eat it."
