Country singer Carrie Underwood draws ire with comment about fertility

Country singer Carrie Underwood has drawn some ire over recent comments she made regarding fertility.

In the latest issue of Redbook magazine, Underwood, 35, speaks about her desire to have more children, admitting she feels her age has become an obstacle to this dream.

"I’m 35, so we may have missed our chance to have a big family," the American Idol 2005 winner, who has a three-year-old son with husband Mike Fisher, says.

“In the meantime, we're lucky to be a part of organisations that help kids, because our focus right now in our lives is helping as many kids as possible.”

When the article appeared on social media, commenters were quick to share their thoughts on Underwood’s remark about age and fertility prospects - with a mixed response.

Many reassured the Grammy Winner she hadn’t “missed her chance” to grow her family, and explaining that 35 was not “too old” to have more children.

“I was 44 and my wife 42 when child number seven was born. It depends on your health and your desire only,” one Twitter user wrote.

However, others suggested the comment was misguided.

”Exactly how did Carrie Underwood miss her chance to have more kids? She’s 35 and has more $$ than she’ll ever need!” one wrote.

There were also plenty of people defending the 'Cry Pretty' singer and the intentions behind her comment.

“No one knows her body but her and maybe her doctor. Fertility drops in your 30's. People need to stop judging and mind their business,” one said.
