Breastfeeding mum slapped with $115 parking fine and nearly towed

A mother who pulled over her car in New York City to breastfeed her baby has been slapped with a $115 ($160 AUD) parking fine.

Whilst driving through the city on Friday morning, Guillermina Rodriguez was stuck in gridlocked traffic and had no choice but to pull over into a no-stopping zone to feed her three-week-old daughter.

"I'm like almost crying because she's crying and all I want to do is pull over so I can attend to her," the mother told WABC-TV.

After jumping into the backseat to quickly nurse her baby girl, Eliana, a truck arrived and nearly towed Rodriguez's car away with herself and her daughter still in the vehicle.

The mum managed to honk her horn to signal to the traffic warden she was in the car and signalled she was breastfeeding her newborn.

However, the traffic agent just looked at her with a grimaced face, then he placed a ticket on Rodriguez's window and just walked away.

The mum is planning to fight the fine, but explained to CBS News New York the traffic agent should have been "more sensitive".

"I feel like getting them a little bit more educated on that area would be a lot more helpful," she added.  

The NYPD told the outlet the warden had written up the ticket before he saw Rodriguez was breastfeeding.
