A leap year occurs roughly once every four years. The concept was brought about during the rule of Roman dictator Julius Caesar.
Every year it takes approximately 365.25 days to orbit the earth. Instead of keeping the quarter of a day each year, it was decided to combine four into one whole day every four years. That has become February 29, and the next one is coming up soon!
