Love Stories: How Emma Roberts found true love with fiancé Cody John - and why she vows to keep their romance private

Just a week ago, Emma Roberts thrilled fans when she announced her engagement to her actor partner, Cody John.

It seems the young star, 33, who is the niece of Hollywood actress Julia Roberts, has finally found true love after some high-profile romances - and even a past, broken engagement.

The couple started dating back in 2022, but the pair have kept their romance relatively under wraps in the years since.

Privacy is something that American Horror Story star Emma values highly.

"I never want to talk about relationships I'm in or that are ending or have ended. It's hard enough to be with someone by yourself, let alone with an audience," she previously told Cosmopolitan after one rumoured relationship split.

Emma, who boasts more than 20.6 million Instagram fans, said it's hard having a romance in the public eye – especially now that social media is around.

"Because of Twitter and Instagram, there's a whole other element where everybody can comment on what you're doing and no one knows the real story. That's hard," she added to the publication.

Roberts previously told Flaunt: "My social media is for fun, it's for reading, it's for fashion, but if you want to get really deep with me or know what I think about things, you're not going to see it posted on my social media."

She also told the publication that she "didn't want to date actors anymore".

The New York-born actress said it's hard to be in a relationship with method actors.

"It's hard, I think, for two actors to be together. I'm trying to think if I've seen it done successfully," she said.

Cody has acting credits to his name, including the TV shows In the Dark, Wu-Tang: An American Saga and The Rookie.

Emma debuted her romance with Cody on Instagram back in January 2023, sharing a picture of the pair holding hands together on set.

She captioned her post at the time: "#2022 I loved you ❤️ happy new year hotties! 🪩 🥂"

He first confirmed their romance in August 2022 with a black and white photo of the pair kissing on a yacht.

"Sweet sweet," he wrote.

The pair, according to E! News, first met through friends in the industry, but were reportedly taking things "slow" at first with her son "in mind".

They announced their engagement just a week ago, sharing a loved-up snap of the pair together near a lake and Emma showing off her diamond engagement ring.

"Putting this here before my mum tells everyone ❤️," Roberts captioned the happy snap.

It was a cheeky reference to the time when her mother Kelly Cunningham shared pictures of her son Rhodes' face online without telling her first.

"When your mum posts your [son's] face without asking but you love them both so whatever," Roberts wrote on her Instagram Story in response at the time.

Emma shares Rhodes, three, with her actor ex Garret Hedlund.

Before that, she was in an on-off relationship with actor Evan Peters from 2012 to 2019. The pair were reportedly engaged at one point.

In the past, she had been linked to the likes of Glee star Chord Overstreet and even pro-skater Ryan Sheckler.

She recently told People about juggling motherhood and her career, saying: "It's really hard."

"I see how being a mom is a full time job, so I see how for women who have full-time jobs and [are] full-time moms, it's so hard and I have so much respect for them."

"I'm so lucky my mom helps me a lot," she added.
