Woman tells dying ex-husband President Trump is being impeached

An elderly man died believing Donald Trump had been impeached after his ex-wife lied to "bring him comfort" in his final moments.

Michael Garland Elliott, 75, was approaching the last hours of his life when Teresa Elliot, his ex-wife and best friend, told him the fake news.

"I knew it was his very, very last moments", Ms Elliott told NY Daily News. "I knew that would bring him comfort and it did. He then took his final breath."

In the interview, Ms Garland described her ex-husband as a news junkie who constantly talked about his disgust over Donald Trump and his presidency. "He hated his effing guts", she said.

The Elliots divorced 20 years ago but remained friends until Mr Garland's recent death.

"Though their marriage ran aground, their friendship only grew stronger", Mr Garland’s obituary published on the local website, Oregon Live read.

Ms Elliot said she had no regrets over the white lie.

"If I could leave him with a happy piece of news then why wouldn’t I?", she told the Daily News. "And maybe in the end it won't turn out to be a lie."

Mr Garland died from congestive heart failure.
