Personal care brand Dove has apologised for a Facebook advert showing a black woman in a brown T-shirt peeling it off to reveal a white woman underneath.

The brand apologised for the image in a tweet, saying they "deeply regret" that the ad "missed the mark in representing women of color thoughtfully".

Make-up artist Naomi Blake captured the ad, which has since been removed from Facebook, in a screenshot, saying, "So I'm scrolling through Facebook and this is the #dove ad that comes up ... ok so what am I looking at" in her caption.

Back then, the brand said in a statement, "All three women are intended to demonstrate the 'after' product benefit. We do not condone any activity or imagery that intentionally insults any audience."

Customers have also found a Dove self-tan bottle that says it is for "normal to dark skin", implying dark skin isn't normal.
