Doctor has medical license revoked over sexy Instagram pics

A doctor in Myanmar has had her medical license revoked by the country's Medical Council because her sexy Instagram photos were considered inappropriate by "traditional Myanmar culture."

Dr Nang Mwe San was a top student throughout her medical schooling and became a licensed doctor at 22, The New York Times reports.

However, she had always hoped to pursue a career in modelling.

After earning her medical license Dr Mwe San worked for non-profit medical groups for several years before deciding in 2017 that she wanted to explore other avenues.

The 29-year-old has since spent the last two years shooting commercials and posting modelling images online, many of which show her in lingerie and swimsuits.

Though some may praise a successful woman for pursuing her dreams, the Myanmar Medical Council took major issue with Dr Mwe San's posts and discussed the images with her in January.

Videos of the young woman exposing her breasts had also been released online, however they were taken privately and shared against Dr Mwe San's wishes.

The council, led by a man and comprised of 11 men and two women, demanded she take the images down and not post any more, making her sign a statement agreeing to these terms and threatening to revoke her medical licence if she didn't.

According to Dr Mwe San, the council ordered her to stop dressing in a way that violated Myanmar tradition and culture.

She told the New York Times there is "so much sexism" in Myanmar, and it's having a major impact on successful professional women like her.

“They don’t want women to have higher positions," she said.

"And they judge women on what we wear. They don’t even want us to wear trousers.”

The nation is currently facing medical shortages, with a population of 53 million and only half the number of doctors required to treat such a massive group.

Many citizens can't afford to see doctors, and those that can often report having to pay bribes for proper treatment at overcrowded and underfunded government hospitals.

Despite these issues Myanmar's Medical Council seemed more concerned with Dr Mwe San's body than her medical skill, and have now officially revoked her medical license when she failed to remove her modelling photos.

She claims she made more as a model than a doctor, with some new doctors in Myanmar being paid as little as $230 a month at government hospitals.

But more than that, Dr Mwe San described modelling as her passion, saying; “I feel more comfortable and happy working as a model.”

She plans to appeal the ruling in the hopes that she will be able to work as a doctor again after her modelling career, however the Medical Council aren't likely to relent.

But Dr Mwe San is determined, writing on Facebook; "Society doesn't own women's bodies. My body, my right."
