'Dear Ivanka': Celebrities are targeting Donald Trump's daughter on Instagram

Droves of famous faces have banded together to launch a campaign in protest of the US White House’s family border separation policy.

Big names such as Amy Schumer, Chelsea Handler and Cara Delevingne have urged Ivanka Trump to act.

The social media campaign, which has now gone viral, has seen celebrities post a letter to the first daughter of US President Donald Trump.

It reads: "Dear Ivanka, you follow me on social media. You said family separation was a 'low point' for you. The low point is for the separated families. You spoke in past tense. This crisis is ongoing.

"As of now, 572 children have not been reunited. A child has died after separation. Approximately 400 parents have been deported without their children. There have been multiple claims of sexual and physical abuse in detention.

"There have been psychotropic drugs administered to children in detention without parental consent.

"These abuses have occurred on your father's watch and under the leadership of Secretary Nielsen. End these racist, inhumane and unconscionable abuses now!

"We demand you call for the resignation of Secretary Nielsen!"

The post ends with a call for the resignation of US Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.

The campaign began after Ivanka, 36, broke her silence on the issue of family separations on Thursday.

She admitted it "was a low point" of her time in the White House during an Axios News Shapers conversation.

"I felt very strongly about that," the mother-of-three said.

"I am very vehemently against family separation and the separation of parents and children so I would agree with that sentiment. Immigration is incredibly complex as a topic. Illegal immigration is incredibly complicated."

In June, the president reversed his administration's "zero-tolerance" immigration policy which resulted in the separation of thousands of children from their families.

However, as of last month's deadline for reuniting them, one in three of the children remained separated from their parents.

Celebrities launched a similar "Dear Ivanka" campaign via Instagram last year when they urged her to protect young undocumented immigrants.
