Daughter taking prom photos at her father’s grave is greeted with beautiful surprise

Hannah Blackiston

Sierra Bradway was ready for prom. She had a beautiful dress, corsage and an attentive date on her arm.  But before they left, she wanted a special photo at her dad’s grave

Her father, Officer Rod Lee Bradway, died four years ago.  He was an Indianapolis police officer killed in the line of duty.

When Sierra and her date Brock Spayd arrived at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis last weekend, they couldn’t have prepared for the emotional surprise that awaited them.

Brock’s mother, a captain in the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, knew they were planning to visit the cemetery and called officers from the Indianapolis Police Department to help make Sierra’s prom photos that little bit more special.

Sierra’s father was killed when he was ambushed and shot six times on September 20, 2013 after entering an apartment where a woman was screaming for help. CBS 4 reported that his response was credited with saving the lives of the woman and her child.

The video posted by Indianapolis Police summed up the bittersweet day perfectly: “There were a lot of laughs, some tears, but most importantly, there was love. Sierra, we know your father is smiling from heaven. Know that your Blue Line Family will always be here for you.”
