'My date gave me a black eye'
It was definitely a date to remember and, thankfully, it wasn’t a first date, it was a second date.
Two years ago I met Todd through friends and I thought he was a lovely guy. Our first date went really well and when he asked me out again, I was happy to say yes.
He took me out for dinner and we had a kiss, so it was all really good.

After dinner - I was pleased to see that he paid for me – he suggested we go to a club. I love dancing and the club we went to is one I went to heaps so it was looking like a fun night.
But things went pear-shaped later that night when Todd went to the bathroom and left me standing on my own.
A quite attractive man came over to talk to me, telling me I looked ‘lonely’ and that he’d been watching me for a while. He said, ‘Who’s that loser you’re with?’ I just dealt with it by giggling and turning away, letting him know I’m not interested in him.
He said ‘Not good enough for you, am I?’ and at that time Todd appeared and asked me if this guy was hassling me.
The other guy mumbled something and then referred to me as a ‘dog’ and everything happened so quickly – before I knew it, Tom swung a punch, the guy moved out of the way, and the punch landed on my face.
I was so shocked, I couldn’t really understand what happened but I was in pain and I started crying. A security guy came over and then the guy took off.
Todd was mortified and went to the bar to get some ice. He wanted to call an ambulance, but I knew my injury wasn’t life threatening. He did the right thing though and called me a taxi to take me home right away.

When I got to my apartment, my flatmate got out of bed and she looked horrified when she saw me. She told me I’d have a black eye in the morning. I didn’t believe her as I didn’t really think I was hit that hard.
But she was right. I had a nasty bruise, which turned purple as the days went on.
Interestingly, it looked a bit like purple eyeshadow and one of my work mates suggested I paint my other eye in purple eyeshadow so I can match!
Todd called me several times to apologise and to make sure I’m okay but he never asked me out again. I was very hurt by that. He basically ghosted me right after that.

It was bad enough having a black eye but I was more hurt by the fact that he clearly didn’t want to see me again. None of this was my fault, why was I being punished?
I still don’t understand why Todd didn’t want to see me again. I tried getting back in touch with him but he never returned my texts or calls.
Oh well. Maybe he felt too guilty to see me again or maybe he was worried that my injury was permanent. It was a night to remember!
