'My ex and I broke up two months ago. Now we have to isolate together'
I broke up with my ex boyfriend Dan* two months ago. We were sharing our apartment and he made the decision to leave, but during that time he lost his job and he's been living with his brother's family.
Things have changed drastically once again because of COVID-19, and now his brother wants him to move out so he can isolate with his wife and kids.
When I heard about that, I invited Dan to move back in with me for the time being. We parted on relatively friendly terms, even though he'd been treating me like rubbish for the last six months or so of our relationship.
I later discovered he'd been having an affair with a woman I was always led to believe was a close friend of his.

He'd confessed to me, and wanted me to give him another chance, but I said there was no turning back. I'd been cheated on in a previous relationship and ended up forgiving him and getting back together, only for him to cheat on me again and make me feel like an idiot. So there was no way I was going to let history repeat itself again.
But I still have feelings for Dan — not romantic feelings anymore, but I still love him as a friend — and I thought it was the right thing to do to invite him to move into my spare room.
I'm now working from home and he's mostly spending his days job hunting. We don't disturb each other, and he's putting as much money as he can towards food and rent.
I know he feels really bad about how he treated me. He's said a few times that I am too good for him and that he "doesn't deserve" how fantastic I've been to him in the last couple of weeks.
I've only had one moment of feeling a bit funny. Last Saturday night Dan was on the phone speaking quietly, and I just knew instinctively that he was talking to a woman. I don't know for sure, but I assume he's back on dating apps. That's how I met him.

He's the kind of guy that can't handle being single for very long, so I'm guessing that he's "on the prowl" once again. It's okay because I've already accepted the fact that we'll never be a couple again, but it just feels a bit odd seeing as we're living under the same roof.
The other thing that feels funny is sharing a bathroom because, when we were together, we had the same routine and would often shower together, but not any more.
So, the situation is okay but it's definitely not easy. My friends keep asking me if we're going to get back together. There's no way I'd even consider it and, thankfully, Dan hasn't made any moves on me.
It's made me realise that we're much better off being "flatmates" and it'll probably get to a stage where we'll be good friends and closer than ever before.
