Chezzi Denyer has decided to swap indoor screen time for playtime this summer holidays.

Chezzi told 9Honey that her and her husband, TV personality Grant Denyer, have promised to spend an extra hour outside over the summer months.

"Life can get so busy, but we know it's important to spend time together especially over the Christmas holiday period" she explained. "Making the time is always well worth it."

Chezzi says she saw a huge change in her daughters Sailor, eight, and Scout, four, when they started to spend more time outside.

"My daughter [Sailor] as diagnosed with a grass allergy at the start of the year, so we started to encourage a bit more 'inside time'" Chezzi said to 9Honey. "She discovered that more inside time meant more screen time. Especially YouTube. She would sit and just be engulfed by repetitive shows, totally oblivious to her surrounds."

Chezzi said she started noticing a change in behaviour in her her daughter Sailor, saying she became "cranky, distracted, would talk back and physically she began to have issues too." Chezzi also noted that she didn't sleep well and was complaining of having sore eyes.

She then started encouraging Sailor to come out and play outside for an extra hour and started seeing changes in her eldest daughter in just two days.

"It was very apparent to me that she needed more healthy and creative playtime in nature's elements to be more grounded and happier," Chezzi revealed.

She also says the trick to avoiding tantrums is making sure the whole family joins in. "Whenever I have said to my girls, you go outside to play while I tried to work, they would throw a little wobbly about it being unfair"

Chezzi also said one of the things she loves about the Golden Circle campaign is the fact that it encourages more family time. "That's what I love about Playlight Savings, it encourages families to be outside together."

She said her family's favourite activities include riding motorbike, going for bush walks and "taking the girls bikes down to our local river and we ride around the bike path soaking up nature".

So how will the Denyer family be spending their holidays?

"Christmas is all about family in our house," Chezzi told 9Honey happily. "We usually travel to the Gold Coast to spend time with Grant's family however this year we are staying home!"

She continued, "Christmas Day we will spend with my family, and this year we plan to have a large BBQ lunch then play backyard cricket, followed by a game of Monopoly and Family Feud! We can't wait!"
