Cheerleader 'used hash brownies as bribes for Homecoming Queen votes'

A US student has taken campaigning to a whole new level.

The unnamed cheerleader, from Hartford High School in Michigan, reportedly used marijuana-laced brownies to bribe people to vote for her for Homecoming Queen.

According to WWMT, the student baked the brownies herself before placing them in goodie bags and distributing them among the school football team in an attempt to win favour ahead of the US tradition, which sees schools welcome back former students and members as well as celebrating the organisation's existence.

Hartford police officer Michael Prince told WWMT some students ate the 'hash-brownies', while others flushed them down the toilet.

"You always think you've heard it all and seen it all, and there is always something new to surprise you," officer Prince said.

Marijuana is only legal for medical purposes in Michigan.

Police Chief Tressa Beltran told BuzzFeed the police have three of the brownies in their possession, which will be tested before charges are considered.

It is understood the girl in question has since left the school and moved interstate.

The district's superintendent Andrew Hubbard told Teen Vogue  the school learned about the incident through the tip line on OK2SAY day, a state-wide initiative to encourage school kids to report tips on criminal activities or potential harm directed at students, school employees, or schools.

"We have confirmed that brownies laced with marijuana were brought into the school and distributed to several students," Hubbard said.

"All individuals involved are being dealt with according to our District Policies and Student Handbooks. We have notified the Hartford Police department and are assisting them in their criminal investigation of the matter."
