AFL footy star Callan Ward proposes to girlfriend Ruby Keddie

AFL footy player Callan Ward very publicly declared his love for his girlfriend when he got down on one knee in front of a theatre full of people.

The GWS captain proposed to girlfriend of six years Ruby Keddie in a busy cinema in Melbourne this weekend - and she said yes.

The Sun Theatre posted a picture of Ward on one knee before a screening of Murder on the Orient Express. Writing on Facebook, the cinema said: “Love was certainly in the air tonight at the sun! Congrats to these two gorgeous lovebirds! @calward @rubykeddie .

Keddie then confirmed the engagement with a picture on her Instagram page, captioned, “12 years ago I met the man of my dreams, 6 years ago he asked me to be his girlfriend, and today at 6:45pm he asked me to marry him! #isaidyes”

According to radio host Ross Stevenson, the couple had discussed the proposal beforehand. Speaking on the 3AM radio show, Stevenson said “It was understood the bride to be wanted a proposal to be in public”.

A staff member for the theatre told the Daily Mail: “It was absolutely gorgeous, [Mr Ward] had pre-planned it all.

“It was very romantic, her mum was here as well and she didn't know anything was happening either.

“He quickly went to bathroom and changed into a suit, came back and grabbed Ruby, took her down to the front of the cinema.”

The couple have not yet revealed a date for the wedding.
