According to a stress inducing new TikTok video, employees that work in the frustrating business have revealed they can actually hear "everything" a person on the phone is saying even when they've paused the conversation.

The video explains: "When a call centre puts you on hold and you don't hear music, it means you're on mute... and they can hear everything you're saying (good and bad)."

While there may be a saving grace that appears in the form of tiresome elevator music, in the event you hear silence, it's best to keep quiet to avoid eavesdropping.

The clip that left thousands of users floored — and questioning what they've said in the past while on hold — garnered over 600,000 views and 74,000 likes on the platform.

Many shocked users detailed the humiliating sentiments they've expressed while on hold.

Others simply expressed their horror at being "sprung" amid waiting for someone to assist them with their inquiry.

"You can hear me yelling at my kid to go somewhere else because I'm on the damn phone," admitted one user.

"I tend to sing when I'm on hold," shared another.

Other users claimed it was a "good" thing "because I'm usually expressing how useless their service has been."

"Hope they learn from the critique I'm making to improve their business," wrote another.

Users who worked in a call centre confirmed the news.

One employee noted "even when you're listening to hold music and they're recording the call they record the audio from your stream."
