Bride's wedding dance with terminally ill father goes viral

An emotional moment between a bride and her father, who was recently diagnosed with a terminal illness, has gone viral on Facebook.

Mary Bourne and her father Jim danced to Lee Ann Womack's song 'I Hope You Dance' on her wedding day in Alabama, December 29 2018.

In May the previous year, Jim was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an incurable form of brain cancer that has left him in a wheelchair.

Womack's 2000 hit was one the pair had identified as 'their song' growing up, according to AL.com.

“We had always planned to use the song – we weren’t sure how he was going to even feel that day – we just knew that we were going to do it somehow,” Bourne, who works as a dance instructor, told FOX.

In a video of the dance, which has since gained over 58,000 views on Facebook, Bourne is seen twirling her father in his chair, holding his hand and twisting herself around.

"It was such a good thing to happen to him," mother of the bride Tracy Roberts told AL.com. “He would have cried through the whole thing even if he’d been on his feet."

She continued: "He was overwhelmed with pride and the love he feels for her. It was a great day for him, a beautiful, perfect day for all of us.”

Facebook users overwhelmingly supported the gesture. "I have never seen a better or sweeter father-daughter dance," said one person.

"This is so incredible. Overwhelmed with joy and sadness for this wonderful family," said another.
