Bride-to-be goes viral for demanding wedding gifts despite no bridal shower

One couple has gone viral after they invited their wedding guests to participate in a gift-giving event ahead of their big day.

Upon receiving invitations, guests were shocked to learn there would be no physical or virtual event, but rather the invitation was purely sent out to prompt guests to send gifts to the couple's address.

The invitation was shared on social media platform Reddit in a thread titled 'You're invited to a gift giving event minus the event'.

An anonymous user shared the invitation, which read, "The family of the bride and groom would like to invite you to a Unique Card Bridal Shower."

"Mind you this might be out of whack, but they already have a shack! With all the gifts you could shower our bride, please keep it on a lighter side.

"A gift card to a place that does not expire is what the bride most desires! Now, to pass your cooking knowledge on to the bride, share a good recipe! (Recipe card enclosed)."

The invitation left users baffled, not only for its poor play on words but because the invite did not even include a "time or date" for the supposed event.

One user wrote, "I didn't realise they literally just want people to mail them money!" with another adding, "That's tacky as hell."

Other users remarked that the poem was a weak effort to make the invitation sound "less icky".
