17-year-old injured in New York terror attack went to school the next day

A student who was injured during the deadly terrorist attack in New York was so determined to keep his perfect attendance record that he went to school the next day.

The teen, 17, was on his way home when the driver of a truck ploughed into the school bus he was a passenger on. Another passenger, a 14-year-old girl, was injured, suffering a fractured hip, internal bleeding and a laceration to the liver.

However, New York City Schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña said that the boy insisted on returning to school the following day “because he was working on 100% attendance”.

Fariña said she talked to student, who told her, “I told myself I’m going to be fine because a lot of people want to help me.”

Another victim - a teacher at a local high school - was on the bike path at the time of the attack, but still went to work the next day despite his injuries.

He was transported to hospital, where he reportedly asked for the black-and-white flag of ISIS displayed in his hospital room after allegedly revealing to authorities he had planned to strike more people on a bridge had he not crashed into a school bus, according to a federal criminal complaint filed Wednesday by prosecutors in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Saipov was charged with providing support to ISIS and violence and destruction of motor vehicles.

He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for November 15.
