The best of Boxing Day sales

Boxing Day is the bargain-hunter’s dream, a day of discounts and deals as just about every store in Australia seems to drop their prices.

But, with the big day just around the corner, you need to know what you want and how cheap you’ll be able to get it.

Luckily A Current Affair got a sneak peek at some of the best sales in store and online that are set to drop on Boxing Day.

Harvey Norman is one of the best places for discounted electronics, appliances and gadgets, with prices slashed significantly.

Samsung 65” Televisions usually retailing at $3,000 could be as cheap as $2,000, and a double door Hisense fridge already on sale from $1,300 down to $1,100 is set to drop even more.

Miscrosoft Surface 6 tablets may even be discounted as low as $500 come Boxing Day.

“Boxing Day is my worst nightmare!” jokes Gerry Harvey, executive chairman of Harvey Norman, “I nearly go broke!”

David Jones also has huge sales planned, with prices slashed across al departments – from Calvin Klein underwear, to kid’s toys, hundreds of dollars off handbags and 50% off KitchenAid.

Meanwhile Myer is expecting over two million customers on the store’s busiest shopping day of the year.

With kitchen appliances like Kenwood mixers discounted by hundreds of dollars, 40% off towels and suitcases slashed from nearly $300 to just $85, it’s no wonder they have so many shoppers!

But in the recent years online stores have been reeling in the shoppers on 26 December, and they’re set to keep the trend going this year.

Amazon.com.au will be offering up to 50% off products like Phillips Personal Care Appliances, while cameras from Nikon and Go Pro are also going to be discounted.

A site-wide deal of 10% when you spend $120 or more will be running on eBay, along with other discounts on popular tech brands like Dyson, LG and Bose.

“One of the best deals we’ve got is on the new LG 55” oled TV, you can save nearly $500 on that,” said Julie Nestor, eBay’s CMO.

But some of the best bargains this year are going to be on travel!

P&O are offering some bookings with just a $1 deposit on Boxing Day, with incredible cruises to the Great Barrier Reef starting at just $499 per person.

Meanwhile Royal Caribbean has a huge flash sale planned with cruises up to 40% off and Jetstar is also set to offer a whopping 40% off their network of flights.

But how should you sort through all these deals?

“As a general rule of thumb make sure it’s at least 20% off,” says Bessie Hassan from Finder.

“Remember if it’s something that you don’t need, it’s probably not a good deal anyway."
