Behind the scenes at the Logies with Shelly Horton

7am 

Logies Day! I woke up from an anxiety dream – not about interviewing celebrities on the red carpet, but that I couldn't find the hair and make-up department. So I had to walk the red carpet without makeup and NUDE. Standard.

8.30am 

Walked the dogs and picked up their poo. So glamorous. Watch the clip above.

10am 

Make-up.

Yep, I had the earliest slot for hair and make-up. But I didn't mind at all, I was so grateful that I was treated to a professional make over. Plus, the incredible Head of Makeup Kylie Papa had organised make-up giftbags for everyone worth a fortune. I haven't even unpacked mine yet, and I'm considering opening one item a day like an advent calendar.

10.45am

Hair.

There was an entire bed full of hair extensions. It looked creepy. I went for massive hair, but off my face so it didn't flop in my eyes on the red carpet.

12pm

Home again. Printed out questions and preparation I had done before, so I was ready for any and all celebrity interviews. Ate lunch; it was going to be a long day. 

Change into my navy sequined tracksuit! Yep, tracksuit. I wasn't invited as a guest, so I didn't want to go over the top in a frou-frou floor length gown. I tucked the trackies up so they looked like pants and put on killer heels by Alexander McQueen. And they did actually kill me.

2.30pm

Hair and make-up touch-up. 

The great thing was everyone popping in to have a chat. Everyone was in such good moods. Three years away from the Logies and no-one was jaded about them anymore. It was refreshing and fun. Ran into my friend and fabulously funny Tanya Hennessey from Stan.

3pm

Red carpet time. Yes, at 3pm. Three hours of standing.

I had a fun chat with Leila McKinnon and helped her pose with her fabulous train. She has such a fierce fashion sense and her outfits are always a highlight of the Logies for me.

3.15pm

Celebs start arriving. I changed into my sneakers because my heels were killing me.  Best decision I've ever made. 

The next three hours is non-stop chat and smiles and videos and photos. I know nearly everyone so it's not a stress about the chats, but there is a fear you'll be interviewing one star while another one walks past.

6pm

Red carpet is finished. I am exhausted.

My highlight was chatting to the Fren family from Travel Guides, who told me they love me so much and that they make my Rocky Road. And that, let me tell you, is the way to my heart.

Having fun with people like the 60 Minutes team and seeing Liz Hayes and the crew in play mode rather than serious mode. Same with Today crew. They were nice and cheeky. Hamish Blake did a sweet recording for my producer's boyfriend for his birthday – so obliging and kind.

It wasn't all roses, though. Everyone wants to be interviewed so it becomes a game of avoiding eye contact until they pass. I had to duck down and pretend to do my makeup when a certain star went past, because I have called for his resignation on air previously. Awkward. 

6.30pm

Time to join the Nine friends and family viewing dinner. It was a massive room with big screens and huge tables. Everyone was in a fun mood and cheering whenever a Nine show won. 

One of my colleagues arranged for my husband Darren to come along too as he was already there doing sound for ACA. I got to share the night with him, which was fun. Many, many wines were drunk by me.

11.30pm

Afterparty time! Dancefloor was pumping. Everyone was laughing and chatting. An open bar meant I hit way too many gin and tonics.

3am

Home time.

Convinced my Uber driver to do a Macca's drive-through by shouting him a coffee. Bought a cheeseburger and fries. Wanted a McFlurry but the ice cream machine was broken. Seriously, Macca's, you're a billion-dollar company – fix the bloody ice-cream machines.

3.30am

Fell into bed in full make-up. Oops

7am

Alarm went off. Time to go and do my regular spot on Today Extra. I felt like a dehydrated lime. I had to wash my hair three times to get all of the product out of it.  

9am

Full hair and make-up reapplication. Lashes were still on from last night. Rallied with fellow 9Honey gal Maria Thattil and managed to get through 15 minutes of live TV without pulling a Stefanovic.

2.30pm

Finished writing this damn story and now crawling back into bed. Bring on the Logies 2023!
