Baby suffers 'chemical burns' after using popular brand of sunscreen
An Adelaide mother wants to warn others about Banana Boat sunscreen after she claims her six-month-old experienced chemical burns.
Emma Lipson said she opened a new bottle of Banana Boat baby sunscreen on January 2 in preparation for a day at the beach.

Lipson first noticed some redness on Chloe’s face while at the beach before things got much worse.
“We were at the beach in the shade with the sun cream on and once we got home she started to get blisters,” Lipson tells 9Honey.

Worried, Lipson decided to seek medical help.
“I took her to the doctor who confirmed it was chemical burns, not sunburn,” Lipson explains to 9Honey.
What was worse, Chloe was too young for steroid cream so she could only rely on painkillers to ease the pain of her burns.
Lipson tells 9Honey she received a response from Edgewell Personal Care stating that Banana Boat sunscreens 'cannot cause chemical burns' as they 'fall within a neutral pH range'.
Numerous cases of people claiming they have received burns after using Banana Boat have surfaced recently.

Another instance involved Vanessa Munroe, whose six-year-old daughter Ruby allegedly showed symptoms similar to chemical burns after using a newly purchased Banana Boat SPF50+ Sun Comfort clear spray sunscreen.

The family from Beachmere, Queensland, were enjoying a camping trip when Munroe realised something was wrong.
“I rubbed the sunscreen on her face and within a minute, her mouth swelled and broke out into blisters,” Munroe tells 9Honey.
Wade, Munroe’s 11-year-old son, was allegedly also left with blisters despite reapplying the sunscreen every 2-3 hours.
The mum of two took Ruby to a chemist where they said it appeared to be a chemical burn.
Munroe tells 9Honey: “the more it gets out there, the better the chance that other parents will see it and know what it can do.”

Munroe tells 9Honey that she has spoken with the company, Edgewell Personal Care, and they are testing the product.
She is waiting to hear back from them.
