Baby dies after heart attack at a UK safari park

A two-month-old baby girl has died after suffering a heart attack in a safari park in the UK.

Emergency services were called to West Midland Safari Park in Worcestershire on Easter Sunday, following reports that a guest had been “taken ill”.

The baby was flown to hospital and visitors evacuated from the attraction.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

The safari park, which holds over 165 species of exotic animal, has both drive-through and walk-through sections.

The attraction is particularly busy during public holidays.

West Midlands Safari Park said in a statement: "Park staff have dealt with an incident this morning where a baby was taken ill and suffered a cardiac arrest.

"Trained park staff immediately attended and provided care until emergency services arrived and took charge of the situation.

"Our thoughts are with the family at this time."

West Mercia Police Inspector Gurjit Singh said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the girl at this tragic time. Police officers are offering them support.

"I would like to thank staff and visitors at the park for their support and understanding while emergency services attended to the girl.

"I would request the family's privacy is respected at this time."
