Paramedics managed to deliver the woman’s baby but were unable to save her.
The newborn was rushed to hospital and is currently in a critical condition.
Metropolitan police Detective Chief Inspector, Mick Norman, described the woman's death as a "horrific incident".
He said the authorities' "sympathies go out to [the woman's] devastated family".
The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, also made a statement.
“Violence against women is endemic in society and devastating murders in the home, like this one, show the scale of the problem we face,” he said.
“My prayers are with this innocent child, and with the mother it has so tragically lost.”
The woman has not yet been publicly identified. Her next of kin has reportedly been informed of her death.
