The ASOS ‘Extreme Mini’ skirt is basically a belt
Another day, another online retail outlet trying to sell something confusing.
In today’s edition, we have ASOS, home of the useful accessory, occasional non-airbrushed model and now, apparently, the belt-masquerading as skirt.
The item in question is the “Extreme Mini Denim Skirt With Belt”.
Most of the words in this description work: it's definitely extreme; it's definitely mini; it's definitely denim; there is definitely a belt.
There’s just no way this is a skirt.

Wait, you say. Maybe it's just a funny angle. Maybe you just need to see it from the back.

Then again, maybe not.
An important aside: This is not a matter of being sniffy about skimpy clothes – power to anyone able to carry off a very small piece of denim and ... whatever we should be calling this cutout leotard device.
This is a matter of truthfulness, and accuracy. It's a matter of calling a spade a spade, and a belt a belt.
ASOS has tried to improve the "skirt" disguise of its belt with a confusing addition: another belt.

But Twitter wasn't fooled for a second.
"FYI Asos this is a belt, not a skirt," wrote one user, wisely.

Seeing it in context (which according to ASOS seems to be a leather jacket and fishnet socks) doesn't make an especially strong case for the "skirt" camp either.

The item comes from designer Jaded London, whose clothes have been seen on Beyoncé, Rita Ora and Ellie Goulding, among others.
FOMO can make you do (and wear) the strangest things. Listen to this episode of 9Honey's hit podcast Life Bites as we try and work out why:

With that kind of fashion cred, who knows – maybe this signals the return of a trend.

Low-rise, it seems, is back. Belt up.
