Actresses will protest sexual harassment at the Golden Globes by wearing black

The Golden Globes is one of the biggest events in the Hollywood calendar, so if ever there were a statement to be made, it would be the perfect time. 

And if are reports are to be believed, that's exactly what Hollywood's elite are planning.

According to E! News, actresses will protest sexual harassment in the most visual way they can think of - by wearing black on the red carpet to the 2018 Golden Globes. 

No specific actresses have come forward to say that they will be taking part in the protest, but many of the nominees this year, including Reese Witherspoon, Jessica Chastain and Meryl Streep, have spoken publicly about their experiences with sexual harassment in the industry. 

Also nominated this year are actresses Michelle Williams, Judi Dench, Helen Mirren, Margot Robbie, Saoirse Ronan and Emma Stone.

It's believed that those planning to take part see it as an act of solidarity with fellow women following the #MeToo movement which gained popularity thanks to Alyssa Milano. The hashtag inspired millions of women to share their own experiences with sexual harassment, leading to a worldwide phenomenon that's still gaining momentum. 

Since The New York Times and The New Yorker first published numerous allegations against Harvey Weinstein, many other public names have been accused of sexual harassment, including Dustin Hoffman, Louis C.K and Don Burke.

The 2018 Golden Globes will be held on 29th January, E.S.T.
