How Stuart Diver ensures his daughter will always remember her mum
Stuart Diver, sole survivor of the 1997 Thredbo Landslide Disaster, has opened up on the 20-year anniversary of the tragedy that changed his life forever; reflecting not only on the trauma he endured but his greatest ever strength – his daughter Alessia.
Recovering from the Thredbo Landslide Disaster that killed his young wife, Sally, took incredible strength. But in the years since Stuart has again been forced to face more unimaginable heartbreak.
Two years after the landslide, Stuart found love again in Thredbo local Rosanna Cossettini. Three years into their relationship Stuart and Rosanna married and planned to start a family almost immediately. However, just as their life together took off, weeks after returning from their honeymoon, Rosanna was diagnosed with breast cancer.
Despite the devastating news, Stuart and Rosanna were determined to make every moment of their lives together count. And in 2010, after one miscarriage, a joyful and extraordinary addition to their family was born, Alessia.
Devastatingly, Stuart and Alessia lost Rosanna two-and-a-half years ago, after her cancer returned.
