This World War II ‘spy pencil’ is not what it appears

There are some fools out there who would suggest that Antiques Roadshow was boring.

These people would roll their eyes and groan dramatically when it comes on, wining about how dull it was.

Oh how they scoff. 

And those same people would probably react like this when they saw someone trying to get a pencil valued by an expert:

But then those people would be missing out.

Because this is no ordinary pencil.

As we learned from a snipped of the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow broadcast in the UK on Sunday night, it’s a damn spy pencil.

It dates from World War II and was distributed to members of Britain's royal air force.

Apparently made in the dark of night after the pencil factory had shut down for the day, the pencil had a secret compartment.

It contained a tiny map of Germany and was even fitted with a miniature compass.

Pretty bloody nifty, hey?

Expert Mark Allum said the pencil would worth as much as $700 to the right collector.

Yep, 700 big ones for a pencil.
