6 wild moments from the bizarre dating show Undercover Twins

Peter Conte

If you've never heard of Undercover Twins, then the first thing you need to know is it is definitely not an investigative show. Rather it's about dating.

Here, identical twins Summer and Eden, enter a gorgeous mansion filled with eight men looking to date them.

Only there's one big twist, the men all think they're only dating one girl.

Think it sounds ridiculous? Well it is a bit, and here are six of the wildest moments from the first episode, which you can stream for free on 9Now.

1. An introduction to the twins

You would think to pull this charade off the girls would have to be similar not just in looks, but also in personality. It's a big tick for looks, but the 23-year-old twins reveal they're very different people. Eden describes herself as "the strong-headed one", and she describes her sister Summer as, "no offence, you're the push over". They add they're into very different types of guys. Obviously a revelation like that makes it look like things are going to get very messy.

They're both adopting the name Summer for the show, and I wish they showed us how they decided. 9Now

And I won't lie to you. Every time they're both on screen I am in desperate need of name tags. Even more wild is how the girls are reminding each other of what names to use as they approach the mansion, because Eden needs to get used to calling herself Summer.

2. Meeting the boys

There's an eclectic mix of men looking for love. Shane is a 25-year-old electrician "looking for a spark, not an electrocution" who's oozing so much confidence he looks like he's about to explode.

Shane's looking for a spark... maybe even two? 9Now

But while some of the men seem less than genuine, others are very down to earth. Like Joel, who was raised by a single mother and says, "I would never treat a girl how I wouldn't want my mum to be treated."

There's 30-year-old James who's a personal trainer. Formerly being very overweight, James is now ripped and says, "The fat kid will never go. The insecurities will always be there. That lack of confidence, part of him will always be there."

James is not used to attention from the girls, but we have a feeling he could be a frontrunner. 9Now

But we can't forget influencer Adam. "I'm a social media influencer which basically means I influence people on social media," he says.

All in all it's one of the most random groups of men I've ever seen on a dating show — and I am here for it.

3. The girls approach to making sure only one of them is seen by the men at any time

Now this seems simple enough, just stay in your room, right? No, Because this is TV. While the girls go on five-minute speed dates with four of the eight boys each, the other listens on just metres away behind a wall.

This is only made better by the women's continual excitement that the boys haven't caught onto their ruse.

Listening in from behind a wall just metres away. Seems a little risky, but we'll go with it. 9Now

4. The girls like the same boy

I'm sure this is a producer's dream. After Summer listens in on Eden's date with Samuel, they both conclude they "fancy him".

"No, this can't happen," Eden says. Yes it can and it's perfect for the drama.

Hold up. HOLD UP. You cannot be liking the same guy as me. 9Now

5. Men will say whatever they think women want to hear

One of the most awkward things I found watching this show is that while on the speed dates, the girls often asked the boys what their type is, or if they preferred blonde or brunette hair.

Often the boys would describe what they saw in front of them, and at one stage a boy went as far as to say balayage, which is exactly the style the girls have.

6. Shane's stupid remark reveals some men are clueless

Like a lot of dating shows, this one highlights how some of the men don't really think before they speak. Later in the night when Summer brings pizzas and beers to spend some time with the 'lads', they get onto the topic of food.

"What about sausage, do you like sausage?" asks Shane. A question that very understandably leaves Summer less than impressed.

Summer is clearly tilting as far away from Shane as possible while trying to be subtle. 9Now

When she goes to debrief with Eden about the comment, Eden refers to Shane as being a "f---ing little creep." It's safe to say both girls are completely off him.

Regardless of the wild first impressions and bizarre premise of the show, it's definitely one you'll get sucked right into.
