Huge snake joins sunbakers at Sydney’s Balmoral beach

Beachgoers have been greeted with a “local first” after a huge Diamond Python found its way to the sands of Balmoral Beach in Sydney’s north.

The two-metre long reptile was filmed by a Council ranger near the beach club this morning.

“A busier than usual breeding season has led to a huge number of call outs on the north shore, with hundreds of snake sightings from Chatswood down to the Harbour,” Sydney snake catcher Harley Jones told the Mosman Collective.

Mr Jones did admit however, that a python at Balmoral was unusual, and it looked to have travelled some distance.

A trail was spotted from the water, with the snake apparently also enjoying a cool off in the November warm weather.

Mosman Councillor Roy Bendall told the Mosman Collective a snake on the beach was a “local first”, and would “make for a great movie.”

The snake was captured and taken to a reptile refuge.

October and November are peak season for snakes, as the weather warms up and the reptiles wake up and begin searching for food and mates.
