US Mayor takes his terminally ill dog on road trip across America
A Massachusetts Mayor has captured hearts and well-wishes across the world after taking his terminally ill dog on a road trip across the US.
In September, Paul Heroux’s pooch Mura was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma - an aggressive terminal blood cancer.
“Her vet told me she has one to three months without treatment,” Mayor Heroux told his followers on Facebook.

Mayor Heroux noticed Mura with her back hunched over visibly in pain, it was later revealed her spleen had ruptured and she was bleeding internally.
She wasn’t expected to live through the night, but miraculously did, before getting the tragic diagnosis a week later.
It was after the diagnosis that Mayor Heroux put in for holidays – the first in almost three years – to spend time with Mura.
Their two-week adventure started on October 29 at Niagara Falls and continued to Michigan, Chicago, Wisconsin and all the way to California. Mayor Heroux documented their trip on Facebook.

Highlights included visiting the Buffalo Gap National Grassland where ‘Dances with Wolves’ was filmed and spotting elk in Montana.
“Mura perked up (she was bred to hunt boar and deer) there seems to be a local herd who roam around,” Mayor Heroux wrote about their pit-stop in Gardiner.

“Mura doesn’t know she has terminal cancer, so don’t tell her. Just let her think she is the little princess that she is – going for the best ride of her life.”
