Zayn Malik's sensational claim about his ex Gigi Hadid: 'I don't know if I was ever in love with her'

One Direction star Zayn Malik has raised eyebrows with new comments about his supermodel ex Gigi Hadid, whom he shares a daughter with.

The English singer, 33, appeared on Alexandra Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast and candidly admitted he doesn't think he was ''ever in love'' with Hadid, 30, during their time together.

"I will always love her, but I don't know if I was ever in love with her," he said.

"You said in an interview that you don't know if you've ever truly been in love. Do you still stand by that?" he was asked.

"Yeah. My understanding of love is always developing," the former One Direction star replied.

"At that moment in time, I might have thought it was love, but as I got older, I realised maybe it wasn't.

"Maybe it was lust. Maybe it was this, maybe it was that. I don't feel like it was love."

Referencing Hadid specificially, he said, "To be fair, just to say this on the record, I will always love G, because she is the reason my child is on this earth, and I have the utmost respect for her.

"I will always love her, but I don't know if I was ever in love with her."

"I do love her a crazy amount, but no, I don't think I was in love with her at that point, otherwise I would have been a better version of myself."

The past comments Malik referred to were from his appearance on The Zach Sang Show in 2024, when he said: "I don't know if I've ever actually truly been in love, at this point."

The declaration made headlines at the time.

Malik and Hadid were first linked back in late 2015 and seemingly confirmed their relationship with a social media snap.

Gigi appeared in Zayn's film clip for his racy single Pillowtalk, said to be inspired by her, and soon they made their Met Gala debut together.

Their relationship was a little hot and cold it seems and they broke up in 2018, before getting back together.

In 2019, they endured another breakup before later reuniting and confirming they were back on in 2020 and announcing their pregnancy.

They soon welcomed daughter Khai, now five, in September 2020, with the singer announcing the news on X.

"Our baby girl is here, healthy & beautiful. To try put into words how i am feeling right now would be an impossible task," Zayn wrote in a post at the time.

"The love i feel for this tiny human is beyond my understanding.

"Grateful to know her, proud to call her mine, & thankful for the life we will have together x."

He and Hadid soon called it quits in October 2021.

The supermodel is now dating Hollywood megastar Bradley Cooper, 51.
