Yellow Wiggle Emma Watkins gives first TV interview since separating from Purple Wiggle Lachlan Gillespie

When Yellow Wiggle Emma Watkins and Purple Wiggle Lachlan Gillespie separated in early August, they didn't only shock their fans both big and small, but also their Wiggles bandmates, Anthony Field and Simon Pryce.

In her first TV interview since separating from her husband of two years, 28-year-old Watkins revealed on Australian Story that over the course of eight months, the pair "quite organically" parted ways and had planned to tell the world by the year's end. But unfortunately the media caught wind of the separation and broke the news.

"The other Wiggles didn't know. I don't really think many people knew about it," Watkins said. "Lachy and I still really wanted to work on our relationship, and work through some things together."

Field, 55, also spoke of the relationship between his bandmates, saying that despite the troubles in the duo's relationship, they kept things on set professional at all times.

"Emma and Lachy are really private," said the Blue Wiggle. "They keep it to themselves, their private lives, and I never pry."

In the TV interview, 32-year-old Gillespie also gave viewers an insight into his relationship with Watkins.

"We're very different, Emma and I. I think I'm the more romantic one. She's very much down the line and she just... She's got her own way of doing things.," he revealed. "'There's not a lot of time in between to spend together outside Wiggles. It has all been all-consuming, and that's been a tricky thing to get right, I suppose."

But while their romantic relationship didn't work out, Gillespie says they'll always have a "beautiful connection" -- and Watkins agrees.

"The media does doubt our affection for each other, and they won't write about that. But we genuinely care about each other and we have been through all of this together," Watkins said. "Out of everybody, the only person that really gets me is Lachy.

"This has been one of the strangest years and it has been tumultuous, but the truth is that Lachy and I love each other and we'll be in each other's lives for the rest of our life. And so I think that makes us feel quite calm."
