Jerry Seinfeld has explained why he didn't want to hug Kesha.

On Monday night, the comedian was being interviewed at the 'Night of Laughter and Song' in Washington, DC, when the 30-year-old singer strolled toward him and the pair had this exchange:

Kesha: I’m Kesha, I love you so much!

Jerry: Oh, thanks.

Kesha: Can I give you a hug?

Jerry: No thanks.

Kesha: Please?

Jerry: No thanks.

Kesha: A little one?

Jerry, taking a step backwards: Yeah, no thanks!

Now, Jerry has told us exactly why he chose not to give her that hug, and a lot of it, comes down to genuinely not knowing who the musician is!

"I'm 63, I don’t know every pop star… I don’t know everyone." the Seinfeld star told Extra.

Jerry's also not a hugger by nature, but particularly with "a total stranger".

"I was right in the middle of an interview; it was a little off." He explained, smiling. "When you get to be my age and you've done a couple things, you have your own reality, in my reality… I don't hug a total stranger."

"I have to meet someone, say hello. I gotta start somewhere… hug isn't first moment of a human, two humans. I never did that."

"I got a borderline harassment case here!" Jerry added, laughing.

When the reporter suggested that Kesha knew the comedian from watching Seinfeld, he responded, "I'm so flattered by that, but the TV only works one way... I can't see who's watching."

Jerry noted he spoke with Kesha afterwards and that they had a laugh about it all.

"She was very nice about it, we laughed about it." And did she get a hug then? "No!"

Aw.
