'90s pop star Whigfield shares confronting photo from cancer treatment 10 years on: 'Get checked once in a while'

Iconic '90s singer Whigfield has shared a candid post about her battle with breast cancer 10 years ago.

In a bid to raise awareness of the disease, the Saturday Night hitmaker, whose real name is Sannie Charlotte Carlson, 54, shared a photo of her inflamed breast after receiving radiation treatment at the time.

"I hope this pic (taken during radiation therapy) Doesn't offend anyone but helps to get checked once in [a] while even though you're feeling amazing," she wrote in her moving post.

"#throwback from 10 years ago 😕Fighting breast cancer was a strange thing. 1 moment I was living my best life making new music in London, the next I was stuck in a bubble of numbness," she said.

"Even though the operations and radiation therapies where tough, I got so much strength from seeing so many other patients including kids fighting this horrible disease, and many never left the San Raffaele hospital in Milan again 😢."

Whigfield said she hopes other people keep on top of their health checks and sweetly added: "Wish you all a healthy and happy life ❤️❤️."

One follower commented underneath: "I hope you are ok. I'm so glad you have come through such a terrible disease."

Whigfield is known for hits including Saturday Night, Sexy Eyes and Think of You.

The singer told 9honey Celebrity she wished that someone had warned her about fame and becoming a star.

"I wish someone would have prepared you for these things because you're kind of just pushed out into the whole thing," she said.

"You need a strong personality and I think you have to be sure of what you're doing.

"Because I love being on stage – I really enjoy it sincerely and I love the audience. But you need a lot of discipline for work, and you really need to love what you're doing."
