Lois De Banzie, Tony-nominated actress known for playing Eleanor Roosevelt in Annie, has passed away

Lois De Banzie, a Tony-nominated actress who played Eleanor Roosevelt in the 1982 film adaptation of Annie, has passed away at the age of 90.

De Banzie, who was born in Scotland, died on April 3, according to her family's announcement posted in the San Francisco Chronicle.

Her cause of death was not revealed.

"Lois was proud to have made a career as an actress on stage, screen, and television," her obituary read.

"Her wit and humor will be much missed."

De Banzie was born on May 4 1930 in Glasgow, Scotland.

The triple threat notably performed in Mornings at Seven, for which she was nominated for a Tony Award and received a Drama Desk Award.

De Banzie also starred in Sudden Impact (1983), Sister Act (1992) and Addams Family Values (1993) as well as in Annie.

She was also the niece of British actress Brenda De Banzie, who starred in a plethora of films including Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) and The Pink Panther (1963).

Lois De Banzie's other Broadway credits included a two-year run with Da alongside Bernard Hughes from 1978 to 1980, as well as The Last of Mrs. Lincoln in 1972 and The Ocette Bridge Club in 1985.

Other film credits include small roles in Tootsie (1982), Mass Appeal (1984), Arachnophobia (1990) and Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult (1994).
