'We messed around on set': Tammy MacIntosh's reveal about working with longtime friend Guy Pearce

EXCLUSIVE: Tammy MacIntosh is a force to be reckoned with in the entertainment world.

The Australian actress, 55, has appeared in some of the most iconic locals shows and productions throughout her 40-year career, including the McLeod's Daughters film, The Flying Doctors, All Saints, Sea Patrol and Wentworth.

But that success hasn't come without support from those around her.

"You can go and be the best actor on the planet, but you can't do it alone," she tells 9honey Celebrity in an interview.

Now, she stars as Colleen in the film Inside, directed by Charles Williams and starring fellow Aussie screen icon Guy Pearce, Chloe Hayden and Cosmo Jarvis.

MacIntosh has enjoyed a years-long friendship with Pearce, 57, and spoke of how nice it was to reunite with him on set and work with him again.

"[It was] super fun," she said.

"I've known Guy since I was a teenager, because I started my career in Melbourne and he lived in Melbourne."

"He's genuine, soulful, kind and funny and we messed around on set, called each other stupid names," MacIntosh added, with a laugh.

"He's nothing but an absolute joy, I love him, he's beautiful!"

She also said how "brilliant" all the cast members are.

"They're absolute angels. They're divine people. And on top of that, they're ridiculously talented," MacIntosh said.

The Australian crime thriller film and prison drama follows the story of a young inmate being watched over by two men – a notorious criminal and another inmate – and focuses on their bond and subsequent unravelling.

The actress said the script is "so powerful" and "so authentic, real and true".

"This is a story about breaking down the prison walls you create inside your own heart and mind," she said.

MacIntosh praised director Williams, saying she was a little "intimidated" despite her years of experience, as she wanted to do a good job for him in her role.

"After 40 years in the industry, I was slightly scared of Charles because his script was so f--king good," she admitted, calling him a "genius".

"I was constantly in awe."

After decades in the industry and some iconic projects and titles under her belt, the star told 9honey some of her best advice for up-and-coming Aussie actors.

"Always be on time, always know the material inside and out, just tell the truth, tell the truth when you're on screen," she said.

Reflecting on her acting career, MacIntosh said she "feels really, really grateful".
