Steve from Blues Clues is alive and full of juicy goss about why he left the kids' show

The world was shocked when Steve Burns abruptly left his popular children's TV show Blues Clues in 2002.

The now 43-year-old, who hosted the popular program from 1996 to 2002, has revealed the reason behind mysterious departure.

"I was going bald," Steve told Daily Mail, adding that he wasn't sure if the show's producers would be able to find a wig "with any dignity" for the then 28-year-old.

"Everyone wants there to be a dramatic answer and there's not," he added. "I wish I had a cool answer for this, but I just - I did it for like seven years and it just seemed like time to go. It just seemed like the right time."

Another reason the American entertainer left was because he was starting to feel burnt out.

"I was in every take of the show every day for all those years on a blue screen, so I was like, I just didn't have any more performance left in the show business land," Steve, now bald, said.

His departure was explained on the show as just Steve leaving for college. He was replaced by 'Joe', Steve's younger brother, played by Donovan Patton.

There were widely-circulated rumours surrounding his exit from the show, including a number of death hoaxes.

Some said he died in a car wreck, while others claimed he was the victim of a heroin overdose.

Instead of shutting down the hoax, Steve lets his Instagram bio do the talking.

"Steve Burns," it reads. "Alive."

Steve has since launched a career as a musician and voice over artist. In February Steve and Grammy-winning rocker Steven Drozd, 47, of the Flaming Lips released a children's album under their musical name STEVENSTEVEN, entitled Foreverywhere.
