Update at 6:07 a.m.: Serena Williams has given birth to her first child, a daughter, a source confirmed to E! News. Her fiancé, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, was said to be by her side.

On Friday morning, WPBF-25 news producer Chris Shepherd made the announcement on Twitter: "Tennis star Serena Williams gives birth to a baby girl weighing 6 pounds, 13 ounces. Mom and baby doing well."

The 35-year-old tennis legend reportedly went into labour Wednesday in Palm Beach, Florida, according to multiple news reports. The 23-time Grand Slam champion was secretly pregnant when she won the Australian Open in January, and she announced her pregnancy by accident on Snapchat in April.

She had vowed to keep the baby's gender secret throughout her pregnancy. However, in Vogue's September issue, the mum-to-be said she had a hunch she is having a little girl.

"Two weeks after we found out, I played the Australian Open. I told Alexis it has to be a girl because there I was playing in 100-degree weather, and that baby never gave me any trouble. Ride or die. Women are tough that way."

Serena also confirmed she has no plans to retire after the baby is born.

"I used to think I’d want to retire when I have kids, but no. I’m definitely coming back. Walking out there and hearing the crowd, it may seem like nothing. But there’s no better feeling in the world."

Alexis and Serena announced their engagement in December 2016.
