Beyoncé and Jay Z release rare footage of twins in The Lion King doco

Famously private couple Beyoncé and Jay-Z have given fans a rare glimpse at their family life in an upcoming special for ABC.

The documentary, which charts the making of Beyoncé's album The Gift for the live-action version of Disney's The Lion King, is set to premiere in the US this week.

Although the couple's oldest daughter Blue Ivy Carter, 7, is famous for her scene-stealing ways at awards shows, concerts, and even in their music videos, viewers were able to see their other children in the preview as well.

Twins Rumi and Sir Carter, 2, pop up in the hour-long doco as Beyoncé takes the family to Africa where they shoot several videos for The Lion King: The Gift.

"Knowing where you come from, that's what I want for my children," she says.

"It feels like I'm making peace with a part of me that's yearning for my ancestral connection."

The twins already seem like seasoned world travellers, taking planes and then multiple car rides without fuss.

They first made their public debut back in 2017 when Beyoncé shared her stunning - and now iconic - birth announcement photos.

Of course it wouldn't be a behind-the-scenes look at Beyoncé's life without Blue, who appears several times including in the studio where she sings once of the lead tracks off the album 'Brown Skin Girl'.

Beyoncé Presents: Making the Gift comes after the 'Crazy In Love' hitmaker dropped Homecoming: A Film By Beyoncé for Netflix earlier this year.

The critically acclaimed documentary was a look into her preparation headlining Coachella and was nominated for several Emmy Awards.

However, it lost out to James Corden's Carpool Karaoke and Hannah Gadsby's Nannette in various categories.
